PARTICIPATION!

This is one of the major requirements for advancement in rank from Scout all the way up to Eagle. What is participation? Just go to the meeting once in a while and make an occasional appearance? NO…Participation is weekly meetings, patrol meetings, Eagle projects, community projects, Camp outs, and the list goes on. Scouting is a commitment by young men to begin learning how to deal with real problems, how to learn from failure, and most of all…how to lead. This does not mean, you cannot do other things! We have lots of Scouts that show up part way through the meeting because of sports, or church class. Many of our youth leaders divide the responsibility of leadership at the camp outs so the others can go to band, play football or soccer. But they all participate. They may show up on Friday night and leave for a few hours on Saturday but they come and participate. I have noticed many of the new Scouts have been missing out on camp outs. If this is because of lack of equipment or inexperience, STOP. We have equipment and all the experience you will need. Camp outs are where you learn the most and have the most fun. So don’t be shy or afraid to come on the next camp out. You will have a ball. You can even bring your dad.
